Her natural talent has been fostered by such outstanding teachers of pianoforte as Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and Amadeus Webersinke; she has studied under Pawel Serebrjakow in St. Petersburg and und Halina Czery-Stefanska in Krakow. Even during her studies she was a soughtafter soloist, performing works by Tchaikowsky, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt und Shostakovich in particular. She was also at this time a successful participant in pianoforte competitions in Germany and abroad. Though she has tended to concentrate on her great love, Chopin, she is equally capable not only of spellbinding performances of Mozart, Schumann or Prokofiev, but also of Debussy`s and de Falla´s Impressions in delightful interpretations. She has appeared in orchestral concerts under the direction of such august figures as Kurt Masur, Ken Ichiro Kobyashi, Herbert Kegel, Otmar Suitner. She has been the guest artist at many performances of chamber music in West and East Europe, in Scandinavia, and in Russia. Her appearances in major cities - Vienna, Paris, Moscow, Madrid, Berlin, Warsaw - have established Ms. Gabriel`s reputation in international circles for sensitive interpretations "with an entrancing variety of tone ...a touch that is absolutely convincing". Her many recordings and numerous broadcasts on radio and television bear witness to her outstanding skill. As one reviewer has put it, Elfrun Gabriel`s interpretations are "all too rare these days. Her playing technique is almost weightless, being borne by both her fine sensibilities and her passion". |
